New Mum on the Blog

Sharing is Caring! Experiences, insights, advice and tips from one mum to another

All about me!

My name is Madeleine. I’m currently on maternity leave raising my baby girl, Audrina who keeps me pretty busy from morning till night. I live with my ‘common-law’ partner Jon, (yup-still waiting for the ring!) We live for the weekends as that is when we are able to spend the most family time, a.k.a Dad get’s to change diapers, take over the meals, and entertain baby while Mum get’s some much needed zzz’s.

I work in administration but have dabbled in a few different fields over the year. From a spa coordinator to an investment firm, I would say I have yet to be able to work in a job I am passionate about. Like most people, I have a lot of different interests- Beauty, staying fit, organization, planning, travelling, music, cooking, social media, to name a few. I love meeting and making new friends and getting to know people. My friends and family often call me a social butterfly as I’m usually one to strike up a conversation to someone standing behind me in the coffee shop line.  When I was younger, my teachers often sent me home with notes that I was ‘too social’ and ‘talked too much,’ which in this day and age I don’t see that being a downfall as our society thrives on social networking!

Over the last 8 months I have lost a total of 70 lbs which I am pretty proud of! In January I joined the Weight Watchers program and have never looked back. I have to give some credit to the fact I am nursing as well, which I hear helps with losing the baby weight! I love Hot Yoga and when I am done nursing plan to get back into it! As contradicting as it sounds it’s a really refreshing work out and one that I would definitely suggest to you if you are looking for an hour of peace and relaxation while burning some serious calories.

Since becoming a new mom my days are filled with play dates, walks, schedules and routines. Which I have to admit, I’m quite good at it! I would love to be a stay at home mom, so I have been trying to come up with different ideas to make that happen, including ways to convince Jon that it’s really the best solution for us all, (I’m still working on it). I often wonder how people do it, and have realized it takes a lot of creativity and perseverance, so I think I have a good chance of figuring it out.

Some days I would love nothing more than to be able to forget about cooking and cleaning, be able to drive with the radio turned up with inappropriate music blasting, go shopping without stopping in every children’s store and rationalizing why Audrina needs to have the baby cowboy boots- but then I remember that day I had her and how my whole life changed. How instead of waking up in the mornings to commute to an unfulfilling job, I get to wake up to someone who completes and fulfills my heart, and reminds me to slow down and be present in my life. I know it sounds so cliché but Audrina really was the best thing to happen to us, and I hope by writing about my life and experiences I am able to share that energy and give people a glimpse of how a new mom makes every moment worth the sacrifices.

I have been a working mom, a work-from-home mom, and a stay-at-home mom. All are hard (because you’re still a MOM), but the most rewarding has been being a work-from-home mom, which is what I do now. Not everyone would agree, but I like having something that is mine to work on, especially because I’ve found what I’m passionate about and I love every second I get to “work.” But, I am even more passionate about my kids, and these years are so fleeting. This is the most important thing you will ever do in your life. Period. Hang on to it, fight for it, and enjoy it.
